So who will finish second in the English Premier league?
Tuesday 3rd March 2009
As Manchester United continue to pull away from the chasing pack their appears to be more fun and casino games in guessing who will finish second in the Premier league rather than who will be the eventual champion, with Manchester United now odds-on. This weekend we saw Chelsea leapfrog rivals Liverpool with Aston Villa not far behind and a poor Arsenal team dropping off the pace. So who will finish second, assuming that Manchester United win the Premier league?
The clever money seems to be on Chelsea having a last gasp push as the season comes to a close although it would be foolish to write off a Liverpool team who have been scoring goals for fun prior to the last three or four weeks. Interestingly the internal bickering at Liverpool seems to be coming to an end and manager Benitez appears to be on the verge of signing a new long-term contract. Will this see his team more focused in the final few weeks of the season?
Those who write off Aston Villa do so at their own risk even know Martin O'Neill's team have hit a bad patch over the last couple of weeks. However, it seems as though a rejuvenated Chelsea appear to have hit form at the right time and look favourites to finish second behind champions elect Manchester United.
